Price for Yoghurt and Fermented Milk in Germany (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average yoghurt and fermented milk export price amounted to $1,903 per ton, declining by -1.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 4.3% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,990 per ton. From May 2023 to June 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Belgium ($2,119 per ton) and Portugal ($2,043 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($1,517 per ton) and China ($1,685 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average yoghurt and fermented milk import price amounted to $1,159 per ton, which is down by -2.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,489 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($3,451 per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($246 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Yoghurt and Fermented Milk in Germany

In 2022, overseas shipments of yoghurt and fermented milk decreased by -6.5% to 599K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 0.5% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 669K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, yoghurt and fermented milk exports reached $1B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
