Price for Yoghurt and Fermented Milk in Australia (FOB) - 2023
The average yoghurt and fermented milk export price stood at $3,890 per ton in July 2023, approximately equating the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 7.8% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $4,595 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($7,019 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($2,250 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average yoghurt and fermented milk import price amounted to $2,927 per ton, surging by 1.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 26%. The import price peaked at $3,513 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,327 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($1,097 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Yoghurt and Fermented Milk in Australia
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of yoghurt and fermented milk decreased by -23.7% to 9.1K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 9.1%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 12K tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, yoghurt and fermented milk exports plummeted to $37M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
