In 2022, the average import price for yarn of combed wool, not put up for retail sale amounted to $25,822 per ton, waning by -2.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $28,283 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($35,497 per ton), while the price for India ($14,094 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for yarn of combed wool, not put up for retail sale stood at $14,515 per ton in January 2024, jumping by 21% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 50% against the previous month. The export price peaked in January 2024.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($53,224 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ghana ($1,405 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Yarn of Combed Wool, Not Put Up for Retail Sale in Turkey
For the fourth consecutive year, Turkey recorded growth in overseas purchases of yarn of combed wool, not put up for retail sale, which increased by 24% to 2K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.0% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of yarn of combed wool, not put up for retail sale surged to $52M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, exports of yarn of combed wool, not put up for retail sale declined significantly to $4.3M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 6%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $6M, and then fell markedly in the following year.
