The average import price for wool; (not carded or combed), degreased, (not carbonised), shorn stood at $2,654 per ton in October 2023, picking up by 1.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 40% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $4,070 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($6,210 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($559 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $6,620 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Italy amounted to -1.1% per year.
