Price for Wine of Fresh Grapes in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average wine of fresh grapes export price amounted to $2.4 per litre, picking up by 14% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous month. The export price peaked in June 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Russia ($3.8 per litre), while the average price for exports to Benin ($1.3 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Wine of Fresh Grapes in Bulgaria (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average wine of fresh grapes import price amounted to $2.7 per litre, shrinking by -3.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 37% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3.0 per litre. From May 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($6.4 per litre), while the price for North Macedonia ($528 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Wine of Fresh Grapes in Bulgaria
For the third year in a row, Bulgaria recorded decline in overseas shipments of wine of fresh grapes (except sparkling wine), which decreased by -19.1% to 17M litres in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The smallest decline of -7.5% was in 2021. The exports peaked at 25M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wine of fresh grapes exports dropped sharply to $28M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 1.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $38M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Imports of Wine of Fresh Grapes in Bulgaria
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of wine of fresh grapes (except sparkling wine), when their volume decreased by -13.1% to 11M litres. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 53%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 13M litres, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, wine of fresh grapes imports contracted modestly to $26M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $27M, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
