In January 2024, the average export price for white sugar (containing >= 99,5% sucrose) and chemically pure sucrose amounted to $595 per ton, surging by 2.3% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in January 2024.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Venezuela ($755 per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($448 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Senegal (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable expansion from January 2023 to January 2024: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2024 figures, import price for white sugar (containing >= 99,5% sucrose) and chemically pure sucrose decreased by -14.8% against December 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 54% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,883 per ton. From April 2023 to January 2024, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,044 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($1,375 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
