The average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $447 per ton in October 2023, growing by 7.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2023 an increase of 22% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $557 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($883 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($123 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+10.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $451 per ton in October 2023, surging by 30% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $557 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to October 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($508 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($198 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+25.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Waste, Parings and Scrap, of Plastics in Hong Kong SAR
In 2022, the amount of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses imported into Hong Kong SAR shrank sharply to 47K tons, with a decrease of -47% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded a precipitous setback.
In value terms, imports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses reduced dramatically to $21M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a dramatic curtailment.
