The average import price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid stood at $1,705 per ton in January 2024, with a decrease of -9.4% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2023 when the average import price increased by 28% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,882 per ton, and then declined in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($3,226 per ton), while the price for China ($1,630 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price peaked at $2,786 per ton in November 2023; however, from December 2023 to January 2024, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($3,133 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($1,734 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid, when their volume increased by 38% to 23K tons.
