Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. In 2021, supplies from abroad of tomato puree and paste decreased by -2.8% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tomato puree imports fell modestly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 23%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of tomato puree imports to Malaysia, with a combined 84% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Chile (with a CAGR of +69.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Chile ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the largest tomato puree suppliers to Malaysia, together comprising 76% of total imports.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from the United States ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) and Chile ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
