The average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse import price stood at $5,652 per ton in June 2023, increasing by 2.3% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 14% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $5,673 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,790 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($1,007 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse export price amounted to $3,927 per ton, surging by 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($7,027 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($613 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
