In October 2023, the average export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped amounted to $10,240 per ton, jumping by 34% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a strong expansion from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped increased by +40.4% against August 2023 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($11,918 per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($7,260 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jordan (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $6,528 per ton in October 2023, with a decrease of -13.2% against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to October 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 22% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $8,137 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to October 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Argentina ($8,975 per ton), while the price for Serbia ($4,606 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Tobacco; Partly or Wholly Stemmed or Stripped in Croatia
For the fourth year in a row, Croatia recorded growth in overseas shipments of tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped, which increased by 24% to 14K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +61.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, exports of tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped expanded rapidly to $80M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +76.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
