The average import price for sulphites; other than of sodia stood at $375 per ton in December 2023, approximately reflecting the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 2.5% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $494 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to -2.3% per month.

Imports of Sulphites; Other than of Sodium in Mexico

For the fourth year in a row, Mexico recorded growth in supplies from abroad of sulphites; other than of sodia, which increased by 31% to 40K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.2% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sulphites; other than of sodium imports skyrocketed to $20M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.4% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
