The average import price for steel, stainless stood at $4,686 per ton in February 2024, reducing by -10.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,382 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to February 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2024, the country with the highest price was Germany ($8,868 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($3,703 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to February 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average export price for steel, stainless amounted to $10,734 per ton, picking up by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($35,429 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belize ($2,351 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
