The average import price for stainless steel bars and rods, angles, shapes and sectionses stood at $5,629 per ton in December 2023, declining by -1.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.1% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $6,316 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($11,115 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($2,399 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($27,010 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($11,403 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
