The average import price for stainless steel bars and rods, angles, shapes and sectionses stood at $6,847 per ton in December 2023, growing by 2.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2023 when the average import price increased by 99% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $7,108 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($10,478 per ton), while the price for China ($3,282 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2023, the average export price for stainless steel bars and rods, angles, shapes and sectionses amounted to $4,548 per ton, falling by -15.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 37% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $9,008 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to December 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($11,175 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($2,545 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of stainless steel bars and rods, angles, shapes and sectionses increased by 3.8% to 35K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.
