The average import price for spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground stood at $4,585 per ton in December 2023, picking up by 3.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 12% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $5,052 per ton in October 2023; however, from November 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($4,608 per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka amounted to $4,066 per ton.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (+1.5%).

In general, the export price saw a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 139%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $53,327 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($37,489 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia amounted to $11,457 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+2.1%).

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground, when their volume decreased by -32.8% to 7.2K tons. In 2022, overseas shipments of spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground decreased by -23.9% to 26 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 190%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 80 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.
