In May 2023, the average import price for spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground amounted to $4,802 per ton, rising by 27% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 54% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $10,847 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to May 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($21,722 per ton), while the price for India amounted to $4,481 per ton.

From July 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $10,524 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($11,369 per ton), while the average price for exports to Namibia ($3,245 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+22.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
