The average export price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground stood at $786 per ton in January 2024, increasing by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,133 per ton. From September 2023 to January 2024, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,949 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($327 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In January 2024, the average import price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $412 per ton, dropping by -31.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 116% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,056 per ton in November 2023; however, from December 2023 to January 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was China ($798 per ton), while the price for Lao People's Democratic Republic stood at $125 per ton.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
