In December 2023, the average import price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $2,268 per ton, declining by -20.7% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a tangible expansion from December 2022 to December 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2023 figures, import price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground decreased by -20.7% against November 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 45% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $3,308 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($3,290 per ton), while the price for China ($2,026 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $2,800 per ton, growing by 7.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 21% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $4,567 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to China ($3,727 per ton) and the UK ($2,673 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($2,526 per ton) and Saint Kitts and Nevis ($2,670 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
