The average export price for spices; ginger, crushed or ground stood at $5,557 per ton in 2022, increasing by 96% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The export price peaked at $8,210 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($8,421 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($2,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+92.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for spices; ginger, crushed or ground stood at $3,843 per ton in 2022, reducing by -27.2% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, spices; ginger, crushed or ground import price increased by +55.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $5,290 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($11,308 per ton), while the price for China ($2,752 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Spices; Ginger, Crushed or Ground in Turkey
In 2022, overseas shipments of spices; ginger, crushed or ground decreased by -56.6% to 69 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 184%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 160 tons, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
In value terms, spices; ginger, crushed or ground exports dropped to $386K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 135% against the previous year.
