The average export price for spices; ginger, crushed or ground stood at $2,350 per ton in 2022, picking up by 2.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,042 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($6,781 per ton), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($698 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average import price for spices; ginger, crushed or ground amounted to $5,293 per ton, dropping by -17.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,424 per ton, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($23,405 per ton), while the price for Chile ($1,330 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+246.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Spices; Ginger, Crushed or Ground in Peru
In 2022, the amount of spices; ginger, crushed or ground exported from Peru totaled 910 tons, with an increase of 15% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 96%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
