The average import price for spices; ginger, crushed or ground stood at $1,515 per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,937 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($7,534 per ton), while the price for Peru ($818 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $45,192 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($11,951 per ton), while the average price for exports to Aruba ($2,706 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+22.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of spices; ginger, crushed or ground decreased by -12.5% to 143 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend.
