Price for Spices Except Pepper or Ginger in Lithuania (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for spices except pepper or ginger stood at $4,552 per ton in August 2023, waning by -30.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 59% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $10,176 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($12,053 per ton), while the price for India ($1,415 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for spices except pepper or ginger stood at $7,660 per ton in August 2023, shrinking by -7.4% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated mild growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, spices except pepper or ginger export price decreased by -16.9% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 41% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $9,221 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($11,631 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($4,321 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+19.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Spices Except Pepper or Ginger in Lithuania

In 2022, purchases abroad of spices except pepper or ginger decreased by -15.2% to 604 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 713 tons, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, spices except pepper or ginger imports fell to $3.5M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $3.8M, and then fell in the following year.
