Price for Soap in Bars Other than for Toilet Use in South Korea (FOB) - 2022

In December 2022, the average export price for soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use amounted to $6,212 per ton, growing by 44% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a resilient expansion from December 2021 to December 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2022 figures, export price for soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use increased by +92.4% against October 2022 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($10,040 per ton), while the average price for exports to Norway ($3,446 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mongolia (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use stood at $5,195 per ton in December 2022, flattening at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 an increase of 66% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $5,925 per ton. From August 2022 to December 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($17,337 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($850 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Exports of Soap in Bars Other than for Toilet Use in South Korea

Exports of soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use from South Korea was estimated at 5.4K tons in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 6.3K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use amounted to $24M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +51.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 46%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, imports of soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use contracted markedly to $5.8M in 2022. In general, imports faced a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19%.
