Price for Smoked Fish, Incl. Fillets in the United States (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average smoked fish, incl. fillets import price amounted to $8,390 per ton, surging by 78% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 174% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $10,065 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Norway ($19,401 per ton), while the price for French Polynesia ($1,911 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+14.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In August 2023, the average smoked fish, incl. fillets export price amounted to $9,317 per ton, increasing by 5.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price posted a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 92% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $18,809 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Bermuda ($36,770 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($8,241 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bermuda (+15.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Smoked Fish, Incl. Fillets in the United States

Smoked fish, incl. fillets imports into the United States shrank modestly to 1.3K tons in 2022, waning by -1.5% on the previous year. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.4K tons, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In value terms, smoked fish, incl. fillets imports surged to $10M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
