Price for Smoked Fish, Incl. Fillets in the UK (CIF) - 2023

The average smoked fish, incl. fillets import price stood at $6,653 per ton in June 2023, growing by 15% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 38% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $6,663 per ton in April 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2023.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Lithuania ($7,576 per ton) and the Netherlands ($7,485 per ton), while the price for Poland ($5,606 per ton) and Vietnam ($5,618 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average smoked fish, incl. fillets export price stood at $7,152 per ton in June 2023, growing by 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a moderate expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, smoked fish, incl. fillets export price decreased by -21.8% against April 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 104% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $10,405 per ton. From November 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($10,425 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saint Lucia ($2,083 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ireland (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third year in a row, the UK recorded decline in purchases abroad of smoked fish, incl. fillets, which decreased by -18% to 2.6K tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a significant decline. The smallest decline of -3.4% was in 2021.

In value terms, smoked fish, incl. fillets imports fell to $13M in 2022. In general, imports showed a sharp setback. The smallest decline of -6.8% was in 2021.
