Price for Sheep and Goat Meat in Australia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average sheep and goat meat export price amounted to $7,054 per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sheep and goat meat export price increased by +58.1% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 21%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($10,115 per ton), while the average price for exports to Papua New Guinea ($2,926 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average sheep and goat meat import price amounted to $5,077 per ton, increasing by 34% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 50%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $8,670 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($7,028 per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($4,700 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Exports of Sheep and Goat Meat in Australia

In 2022, the amount of sheep and goat meat exported from Australia rose modestly to 481K tons, growing by 4.4% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable decrease.

In value terms, sheep and goat meat exports rose to $3.4B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 22%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
