Price for Refined or Synthetic Glycerol in Japan (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average refined or synthetic glycerol import price amounted to $939 per ton, growing by 6.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,051 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($1,387 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($777 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In July 2023, the average refined or synthetic glycerol export price amounted to $3,261 per ton, surging by 57% against the previous month. In general, the export price enjoyed a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 125% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,668 per ton. From April 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($12,894 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($2,321 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+26.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Refined or Synthetic Glycerol in Japan

In 2022, the amount of refined or synthetic glycerol imported into Japan totaled 90K tons, surging by 9.1% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild curtailment.

In value terms, refined or synthetic glycerol imports surged to $159M in 2022. In general, imports saw a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
