Price for Processed Petroleum Oils and Distillates in China (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average export price for processed petroleum oils and distillates amounted to $757 per ton, surging by 7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The export price peaked at $969 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were South Korea ($843 per ton) and the Netherlands ($833 per ton), while the average price for exports to Marshall Islands ($606 per ton) and Liberia ($608 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Price for Processed Petroleum Oils and Distillates in China (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average import price for processed petroleum oils and distillates amounted to $621 per ton, rising by 1.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 an increase of 21% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $672 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($888 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($523 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Processed Petroleum Oils and Distillates in China
In 2022, the amount of processed petroleum oils and distillates exported from China contracted to 54M tons, which is down by -10.5% compared with the year before. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The smallest decline of -3% was in 2021.
In value terms, processed petroleum oils and distillates exports soared to $48.3B in 2022. In general, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +89.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
