The average export price for polymers of vinyl chloride or of other halogenated olefins, in primary formses stood at $1,700 per ton in 2022, growing by 10% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 165%. The export price peaked at $3,687 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Italy ($1,778 per ton) and Ukraine ($1,748 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($1,618 per ton) and Germany ($1,664 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average import price for polymers of vinyl chloride or of other halogenated olefins, in primary formses amounted to $7,629 per ton, jumping by 172% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded strong growth. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($23,378 per ton), while the price for Serbia ($1,297 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+9.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Polymers of Vinyl Chloride or of Other Halogenated Olefins, in Primary Forms in Hungary
In 2022, shipments abroad of polymers of vinyl chloride or of other halogenated olefins, in primary formses decreased by -18.3% to 222K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 135% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 280K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, exports of polymers of vinyl chloride or of other halogenated olefins, in primary formses fell to $378M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 74%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $419M, and then shrank in the following year.

For the fourth year in a row, Hungary recorded growth in overseas purchases of polymers of vinyl chloride or of other halogenated olefins, in primary formses, which increased by 14% to 49K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +25.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +99.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, imports of polymers of vinyl chloride or of other halogenated olefins, in primary formses surged to $117M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +96.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
