The average import price for pens; nibs and nib pointses stood at $15.4 per thousand units in August 2023, shrinking by -44.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 243% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $47.0 per thousand units in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($483 per thousand units), while the price for the Netherlands ($8.9 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+16.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the export price saw a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $15 per thousand units in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($63 per thousand units), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($5.9 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
