In December 2023, the average import price for peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds amounted to $377 per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 7.6% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $449 per ton. From April 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($384 per ton), while the price for Estonia ($215 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds stood at $458 per ton in December 2023, jumping by 23% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The export price peaked at $717 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($510 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada totaled $444 per ton.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
