In January 2024, the average import price for peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds amounted to $262 per ton, growing by 6.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 12% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $299 per ton in October 2023; however, from November 2023 to January 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($343 per ton), while the price for the UK ($182 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds amounted to $483 per ton, dropping by -8.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a precipitous decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 42%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $9,059 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brunei Darussalam ($618 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($311 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brunei Darussalam (+37.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds, when their volume decreased by -3% to 27K tons. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 28K tons, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds reduced to $7.5M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $8M, and then reduced in the following year.

As a result, the exports attained the peak of 122 tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
