The average export price for peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds stood at $135 per ton in October 2023, rising by 9.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 12% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $150 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to October 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($224 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($38.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average import price for peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds amounted to $134 per ton, growing by 25% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 25% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $221 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Netherlands ($143 per ton) and Latvia ($135 per ton), while the price for Belarus ($115 per ton) and Estonia ($124 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Peat; (Including Peat Litter), Whether or Not Agglomerated in Lithuania

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds decreased by -2.2% to 926K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 6.1%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 947K tons, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In value terms, exports of peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds expanded significantly to $113M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
