Price for Nickel; Plates, Sheets, Strip and Foil in the United States (FOB) - 2024
The average export price for nickel; plates, sheets, strip and foils stood at $40,348 per ton in December 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2023 when the average export price increased by 19% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $50,907 per ton. From October 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($52,340 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($30,038 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for nickel; plates, sheets, strip and foils stood at $35,871 per ton in 2022, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for nickel; plates, sheets, strip and foils increased by +73.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($90,274 per ton), while the price for Russia ($10,987 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+18.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 14K tons of nickel; plates, sheets, strip and foils were exported from the United States; picking up by 8.3% against 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, saw a perceptible downturn.

The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
