In August 2023, the average import price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires amounted to $40,542 per ton, falling by -24.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 40% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $76,715 per ton. From April 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($73,321 per ton), while the price for China totaled $44,876 per ton.

From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires stood at $43,462 per ton in 2022, growing by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 73% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($69,552 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($19,589 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires decreased by -33.7% to 37 tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a buoyant expansion.
