Price for Nickel; Bars, Rods, Profiles and Wire in Austria (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average export price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires amounted to $26,381 per ton, dropping by -14.5% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $30,845 per ton in July 2023, and then reduced in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($44,550 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($27,693 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires stood at $37,840 per ton in 2022, growing by 24% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($48,241 per ton), while the price for France ($12,018 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in overseas shipments of nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires, when their volume increased by 3.3% to 14K tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.
