In August 2023, the average export price for nickel; bars, rods and profiles, of nickel alloyses amounted to $39,120 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the last nine months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $39,973 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were South Korea ($54,276 per ton) and Japan ($50,574 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($39,596 per ton) and the United States ($44,210 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+10.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In August 2023, the average import price for nickel; bars, rods and profiles, of nickel alloyses amounted to $43,310 per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous month. Over the period from November 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 31% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $44,276 per ton. From February 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($70,434 per ton), while the price for the United States amounted to $68,350 per ton.
From November 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Nickel; Bars, Rods and Profiles, of Nickel Alloys in Germany
In 2022, overseas shipments of nickel; bars, rods and profiles, of nickel alloyses were finally on the rise to reach 9K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of nickel; bars, rods and profiles, of nickel alloyses surged to $284M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
