Price for Music, Printed or in Manuscript in Germany (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average export price for music, printed or in manuscript, whether or not bound or illustrated amounted to $40,897 per ton, dropping by -17.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 22% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $49,535 per ton in June 2023, and then contracted markedly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($49,821 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ghana ($4,415 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for music, printed or in manuscript, whether or not bound or illustrated stood at $30,178 per ton in July 2023, shrinking by -6.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 70% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $50,276 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($62,267 per ton), while the price for the UK ($10,060 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Music, Printed or in Manuscript in Germany

For the third consecutive year, Germany recorded decline in overseas shipments of music, printed or in manuscript, whether or not bound or illustrated, which decreased by -13.3% to 454 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The smallest decline of -4% was in 2021.

In value terms, music, printed or in manuscript exports shrank rapidly to $18M in 2022. In general, exports saw a deep downturn. The smallest decline of -3.7% was in 2021.
