In 2022, the average import price for lac; natural gums, resins, gum-resins and balsamses amounted to $3,981 per ton, surging by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($13,893 per ton), while the price for Sudan ($1,933 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+16.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average export price for lac; natural gums, resins, gum-resins and balsamses amounted to $5,337 per ton, surging by 54% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 an increase of 66% month-to-month. The export price peaked in October 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($10,919 per ton), while the average price for exports to Jordan ($1,834 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
