Frozen Skipjack Tuna Price in China (FOB) - 2023
The average frozen skipjack tuna export price stood at $2,704 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -3.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 20% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,170 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($2,733 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria stood at $2,064 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Frozen Skipjack Tuna Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average frozen skipjack tuna import price amounted to $727 per ton, declining by -39.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 31%. The import price peaked at $1,980 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Spain ($868 per ton) and South Korea ($789 per ton), while the price for Papua New Guinea ($613 per ton) and Marshall Islands ($628 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kiribati (-4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Frozen skipjack tuna exports from China skyrocketed to 21K tons in 2022, increasing by 18% on 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a precipitous decline.
In value terms, frozen skipjack tuna exports contracted slightly to $45M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a dramatic decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $132M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
