Exports from China
In 2023, shipments abroad of frozen fish and seafood increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after five years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, frozen fish and seafood exports contracted markedly to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, recorded a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Japan (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) were the main destinations of frozen fish and seafood exports from China, with a combined X% share of total exports. The United States, Germany, Indonesia, Thailand, the UK, Spain, Vietnam, Nigeria, Malaysia and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for frozen fish and seafood exported from China were Japan ($X), the United States ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. The Philippines, Germany, the UK, Thailand, Spain, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, France and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Among the main countries of destination, the Philippines, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average frozen fish and seafood export price stood at $X per ton in 2023, waning by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2022, and then declined sharply in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Frozen Fish and Seafood
Imports into China
In 2023, overseas purchases of frozen fish and seafood increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2023 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, frozen fish and seafood imports fell to $X in 2023. In general, imports recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2022, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of frozen fish and seafood imports to China, together comprising X% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Ecuador (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
