In October 2023, the average import price for jerseys, pullovers, cardigans, waistcoats and similar articles; of cotton, knitted or crocheted amounted to $15.9 per unit, with an increase of 13% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 42% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $38.1 per unit in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($28.1 per unit), while the price for Pakistan ($10.6 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 33%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of jerseys, pullovers, cardigans, waistcoats and similar articles; of cotton, knitted or crocheted skyrocketed to $26M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +74.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 32%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
