Price for Iron Oxides and Hydroxides in Brazil (FOB) - 2022

The average iron oxides and hydroxides export price stood at $1,092 per ton in 2022, increasing by 6.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 486% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $1,333 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($1,706 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($471 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average iron oxides and hydroxides import price stood at $2,749 per ton in October 2023, increasing by 54% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $3,104 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,453 per ton), while the price for Canada ($697 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Iron oxides and hydroxides exports from Brazil totaled 27K tons in 2022, surging by 2.7% on 2021 figures. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 7.3%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 28K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, iron oxides and hydroxides exports totaled $29M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild shrinkage.
