Price for Iron and Non-Alloy Steel in Ingot in Spain (CIF) - 2022

The average import price for iron and non-alloy steel in ingots stood at $919 per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 60%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,054 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($1,361 per ton), while the price for France ($386 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Luxembourg (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for iron and non-alloy steel in ingots stood at $1,899 per ton in 2022, surging by 4.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 255%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,859 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,105 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($716 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+16.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Iron and Non-Alloy Steel in Ingot in Spain

In 2022, approx. 38K tons of iron and non-alloy steel in ingots were imported into Spain; increasing by 3.2% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 27%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of iron and non-alloy steel in ingots totaled $35M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
