Price for Iodine, Fluorine and Bromine in Canada (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average iodine, fluorine and bromine import price amounted to $18,160 per ton, rising by 122% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 535% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $42,691 per ton. From April 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Chile ($74,977 per ton), while the price for the United States ($2,774 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Price for Iodine, Fluorine and Bromine in Canada (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average iodine, fluorine and bromine export price amounted to $16,140 per ton, growing by 59% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 250%. The export price peaked at $19,383 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($27,084 per ton), while the average price for exports to Costa Rica ($1,280 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Colombia (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Iodine, Fluorine and Bromine in Canada

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of iodine, fluorine and bromine decreased by -6% to 3.1K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.3K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, iodine, fluorine and bromine imports expanded modestly to $27M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, iodine, fluorine and bromine exports soared to $1M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a significant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
