In February 2022, the average iodides and iodide oxides import price amounted to $39,800 per ton, declining by -50.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2022 when the average import price increased by 135% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $80,620 per ton, and then dropped markedly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($81,146 per ton), while the price for Brazil stood at $38,578 per ton.

From February 2021 to February 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average iodides and iodide oxides export price stood at $26,000 per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 92%. The export price peaked at $62,811 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($44,600 per ton), while the average price for exports to Costa Rica stood at $18,073 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Costa Rica (-4.7%).

Imports of Iodides and Iodide Oxides in Colombia

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of iodides and iodide oxideses decreased by -10% to 61 tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 67 tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, iodides and iodide oxides imports contracted to $2M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2.2M, and then declined in the following year.
