The average import price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses stood at $3.9 per cubic meter in 2022, jumping by 17% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses increased by +55.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 33%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($4.8 per cubic meter), while the price for Australia ($2.2 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+15.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses stood at $0.4 per cubic meter in 2022, with an increase of 84% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a sharp slump. The export price peaked at $4.8 per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($0.6 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($0.1 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Hydrogen, Rare Gases and Other Non-Metals in India
For the fourth year in a row, India recorded growth in overseas purchases of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses, which increased by 22% to 156M cubic meters in 2022. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, imports of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses skyrocketed to $609M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 77%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses, when their volume decreased by -37.4% to 48M cubic meters. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 170%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 77M cubic meters, and then declined markedly in the following year.
In value terms, exports of hydrogen, rare gases and other non-metalses surged to $18M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 78%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
