Price for Hot-Rolled Non-Alloy Steel Wire Rod in Iran (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average export price for hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rods amounted to $541 per ton, falling by -5.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 27%. The export price peaked at $647 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($1,013 per ton), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($53 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+22.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Hot-Rolled Non-Alloy Steel Wire Rod in Iran (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average import price for hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rods amounted to $788 per ton, reducing by -5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod import price increased by +33.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 68%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $829 per ton in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($1,355 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($82 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Exports of Hot-Rolled Non-Alloy Steel Wire Rod in Iran
For the third year in a row, Iran recorded decline in overseas shipments of hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rods, which decreased by -32.3% to 182K tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The smallest decline of -1% was in 2021.
In value terms, hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod exports fell remarkably to $98M in 2022. In general, exports showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 26%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $153M, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

In 2022, purchases abroad of hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rods decreased by -15.3% to 6.6K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 7.8K tons, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod imports declined notably to $5.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +45.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 68%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $6.5M, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
