Price for Halogenated, Sulphonated, Nitrated or Nitrosated Derivatives of Acyclic Alcohols in Canada (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives of acyclic alcohols stood at $11,993 per ton in September 2023, surging by 99% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 128% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $33,758 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($15,566 per ton), while the price for the United States ($6,596 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives of acyclic alcohols amounted to $5,639 per ton, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 92% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $11,355 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,968 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($2,415 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, imports of halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives of acyclic alcohols into Canada stood at 337 tons, with an increase of 11% compared with the year before. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives of acyclic alcohols contracted to $4.5M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.5% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 67%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $4.9M, and then shrank in the following year.
